THE LEAD BACKEND ENGINEER ROLE:
This is a fully hands on leadership role and not a pure management position. As Lead Backend Engineer, you will spend a significant amount of time designing, building, and improving backend services using modern technologies. Alongside this, you will manage and mentor a small team of Engineers, leading by example through high quality technical delivery.
As the startup continues to scale, this role offers a clear route into senior leadership with the opportunity to influence wider technology strategy while remaining close to the code.
LEAD BACKEND ENGINEER ESSENTIAL SKILLS

Strong background in hands on backend engineering building and scaling production systems

Commercial experience working with TypeScript with Python preferred but not essential

Strong Google Cloud Platform experience including designing, deploying, and operating cloud native services

Proven experience leading and mentoring Engineers ideally teams of 4 or more while remaining technically hands on

Experience designing, building, and owning APIs and backend services in distributed environments

Startup or scale up experience preferred but not essential

Comfortable taking technical ownership within a remote first collaborative team
