About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Operations Manager to oversee the operational performance of a large-scale structural and construction testing laboratory. You will manage a team of 15 skilled engineers and technicians, ensuring efficient project delivery while maintaining high standards of quality and safety. This is a hands-on role, requiring both strategic oversight and active presence on the shop floor to ensure seamless collaboration across teams.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage a diverse team of engineers and technicians.
  • Achieve revenue and margin targets through efficient operational methods.
  • Collaborate with Technical and Commercial teams to develop and commercialise new services aligned with strategic objectives.
  • Oversee the smooth planning and delivery of work within the lab, liaising with internal stakeholders.
  • Provide management information and performance reports.
  • Ensure projects meet pricing, margin, and delegated authority criteria.
  • Drive continuous improvement by identifying efficiencies and recommending investments in tools or processes.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Background in construction or mechanical engineering.
  • Experience in operational and financial management (e.g., budgets, Pandamp;L).
  • Strong leadership skills with a track record of managing teams effectively.
  • Practical knowledge of structural materials, testing methods, hydraulic and electro-mechanical systems.
  • Proficiency in using Office software and CRMs.
  • Knowledge of change management and continuous improvement is an advantage.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel for client meetings.
